The challenge
Rudersdal Municipality wanted to build a new sustainable childcare centre where both the building itself and its operation would be in harmony with nature. This included better utilisation of solar energy, a high level of energy security, and an energy system free of environmentally critical materials. At the same time, the solution needed to be safe and reliable in a childcare environment without fire risk or extensive regulatory requirements.
The solution
The municipality chose VisBlue’s flow battery as a central part of the energy solution. The battery stores renewable electricity from the solar panels and the grid when energy is cheapest or most readily available, and delivers it when needed. This ensures a stable energy supply, reduces waste, and increases the resilience of the building’s energy system.
"The flow battery plays an important role in achieving our goal of creating an energy-efficient building."
— Christian Gothenborg, Energy manager, Rudersdal Municipality
The result
A childcare centre that is partially self-sufficient in its energy use, future-proofed against fluctuating electricity prices, and built on responsible, safe technology choices free from cobalt and lithium.
