The history of VisBlue

Our story started 12 years ago...

2014
VisBlue was founded by Adelio Mendes, Anders Bentien, Morten Madsen og Søren Bødker.

Four founders from two universities: VisBlue is the result of a collaboration between Aarhus University and the University of Porto in Portugal. The technology is based on a patented invention by Adelio Mendes (left) and Anders Bentien (top centre). Morten Madsen (bottom) contributes his expertise in power electronics, while Søren Bødker (right) is responsible for the company’s commercial activities.
Late 2014
Borean Innovation invests in VisBlue.

The investment made it possible for VisBlue to develop the battery from a university lab prototype into a commercially viable solution ready for deployment at end-user sites.

VisBlue has also been supported by the Danish Agency for Science and Innovation over the years.
2017
VisBlue is eligible for EU funding.
2018
At the beginning of 2018, VisBlue made its first commercial sale to the island of Livø.

In addition, we formed a partnership with Contour Advanced Systems BV, which became one of our distributors. Our battery installations are delivered and installed in container solutions provided by Contour.

We also partnered with NRGi’s Value Pool.
2019
We initiated delivery of our first large-scale installation.

We also formed a partnership with CIRKEL Energi.

Through our collaboration with CIRKEL Energi, we are able to expand our business opportunities in the sustainable energy sector across Denmark and Germany.

March 2020
We launched an exciting project (DanFlow) in collaboration with DTU Energy, the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, and Danish Power Systems. The project is supported by Innovation Fund Denmark and is led by VisBlue’s own Anders Bentien through Aarhus University.
Mid- 2020
Our batteries were approved by Dansk Energi and are now included on the positive list for battery systems. Borean Innovation exited its ownership. VisBlue is now owned by the three co-founders: Morten Madsen, Anders Bentien, and Søren Bødker, together with four private business angels: Jesper Andersen, Kim G. Christensen, Ole Lysgård Madsen, and Peter Aaby.
October 2020
VisBlue became co-founders of Vasco da Gama

VisBlue became a co-founder of Vasco da Gama, a Portuguese consortium aimed at uniting key players in the energy sector across academia, industry, and the startup ecosystem.

2021
An operations monitoring application was developed and is displayed on a large screen in our office, where the performance of our installations is continuously monitored. This allows us to track the operational status of our batteries at customer sites in real time.

We also entered into a new supplier agreement with the German company Schmalz, which will supply our stacks to the Scandinavian market.
Today
Within a few years, VisBlue expects to become an international brand in the sustainable energy market. The goal is to become a natural part of any larger residential development that includes solar panels in its energy setup

Solar energy storage is a key parameter in energy calculations and can play a decisive role in determining whether investment in solar panels is financially viable and whether a development meets regulatory energy requirements. Our technology sets new standards for the utilisation of green energy, and development continues in the pursuit of greater efficiency at lower cost.
