Is a battery solution from VisBlue recyclable?

Yes, the majority of the components in our battery solution are recyclable.

Up to 99%, to be precise.

The core of VisBlue’s battery solution consists of a stack and two tanks. The tanks are made from conventional plastic and are recyclable, and all components of the stack, except for the membrane, can also be recycled.

A VisBlue battery solution includes the following key components: vanadium electrolytes, tanks, pumps, and an electrode stack. The system is designed so that these components can be easily removed and reused.

What is the lifespan of a VisBlue battery solution?

Our battery solution has a lifespan of over 20 years.

In theory, the battery solution has an unlimited lifespan, but in practice, this is not quite the case.

The components of our battery solution, such as the plastic tanks, hydraulics, and mechanical systems, also have long lifespans.

Long lifespan
Our batteries have a long lifespan. Significantly longer than conventional battery types on the market.
They typically deliver between 10.000 and 20.000 cycles (a cycle being one full charge and discharge), equating to an approximate lifespan of 20+ years.

Saftey
Our batteries are safe to install in densely populated areas. In fact, they are safe to install almost anywhere. They consist of approximately 80% water, 10-15% sulfuric acid, and 5-10% vanadium. Due to the high water content, they cannot catch fire or explode.

99% recyclable
Our batteries are up to 99% recyclable.
They are made from components that are easy to recycle, and the system is designed to be easily disassembled and reused.

At VisBlue, we contribute to a greener world.
We increase the utilisation of solar energy and manufacture our batteries using recyclable materials. A VisBlue battery allows you to use more of the electricity generated by your renewable energy sources, reducing your reliance on grid electricity and lowering your energy costs. By reducing dependence on grid electricity, VisBlue customers are also less exposed to changes in tariffs, regulations, and politics affecting energy pricing and the export of surplus electricity.

How does a flow battery work?

A flow battery works by storing and releasing energy through an electrochemical process, where charged particles move between two liquids (electrolytes) stored in separate external tanks. The battery's unique design allows energy capacity and power to be scaled independently, distinguishing it from traditional batteries such as lithium-ion.
